Tactical Urban Defense Pre-Registration | February 2012 | Philadelphia Urban Self-Defense and Martial Arts

Tactical Urban Defense Pre-Registration | February 2012 | Philadelphia Urban Self-Defense and Martial Arts

What is Tactical Urban Defense?

Practical self-defense, armed and unarmed defense and offense, close quarters combat, self defense scenario training, physical conditioning, escapes from commonly used holds, self defense psychology, mental conditioning, controlling fear, panic and adrenaline, “fight stoppers”, verbal tactics, defense against multiple attackers, using everyday objects as weapons and much more!

Some of the martial art techniques you will use in the course originate from Modified MMA, Krav Maga and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. But, we consider T.U.D to be less of a martial arts class and more of a combat survival class. The tactical and fighting techniques used in the class are the same being used by U.S. Special Forces, Israeli Military, Private Security And Dignitary Protection Contractors In Iraq And Afghanistan and S.W.A.T. Teams across America. The techniques used in the class are “battle tested” and proven to work.

Where And When Is The Course Offered?

The February 2012 TUD course will be held in the Daddis Mixed Martial Arts Philadelphia Academy starting Saturday, February 4th, and continuing on for 7 weeks.  Classes will be held from 12pm-1:30pm.  Please wear comfortable workout attire.

How Do I Enroll?

EASY!  Simply follow the payment instructions in the below PayPal link and you will be all set!  You can also register at any DFC academy in person.

***Note: price is initially listed at “$155″ but will increase to “$175″ after the default shipping charges are added.  Sorry for the confusion!!!***

Happy New Year from Daddis Fight Camps (Time To Set Some goals guys!) Home of the best Philadephia MMA

Happy Holidays and A Happy New Year!
(And More.  Homework Enclosed:)sig
         First, i’m hoping you are all enjoying the holidays to the fullest!  That said, I want to get right into talking about 2012.  It is going to be the best year yet at DFC (I know I’ve said that before, but it’s always been true!).So, how do we make it the best year for the academies and for yourselves?  Read on…

sig

Resolutions no…Goals yes!

I just hate that word “resolution” when it comes to the New Year.  There is a stigma attached to it.  When I hear someone make a resolution, 98% of the time they don’t follow through with it.

So, at DFC, we call them what they are….GOALS.  And, not just goals, but goals with a deadline (or they are not goals at all).  And “Goals we set are goals we get!”.

Let’s talk more about goals for just a minute….

I wanted to take a sec to write to you about how I make my “New Years Resolutions”. What real resolutions really are, are realistic goals for the new year. The key word in my last sentence was “realistic”. Too often we tell ourselves we are going to start jogging 10 miles a day after January 1st.

For someone who typically doesn’t jog at all, this would be considered unrealistic. 99% of these types of resolutions are destined to fail! And, as if not sticking to your goal weren’t bad enough, now you feel awful about yourself and can do damage to your self-esteem.

Be more realistic and don’t set yourself up for failure. One mile would be a great place to start in my opinion, or even a half a mile for the first few months. You get the idea. Please continue to read below if you are serious about having “real” resolutions.

  .

New Year’s Resolutions Don’t Work!

Forget about a “New Year’s Resolution”…they always fall by the waist side. I want to talk to all of you about setting some goals for the new year. Do you know that only 3% of the population writes their goals down on paper for the new year? Those same people are also said to be the most successful people in the country!

Some of you will here us use the term “3%ers” at the academies.  We are referring to the 3% of the population who are successful at everything they do.  They all have similar patterns and one of them is writing down goals and making an action plan on how to reach those goals each year.  3%ers have a lot in common.
Try to adopt the 3%er attitude and you will become unstoppable in what ever is is you set out to do.  And, by default (the fact that you all joined a martial arts school for fitness, wellness, self-defense and an over all healthy lifestyle), many of you are already 3%ers or close to it.
So, let’s start by thinking about where you want to be in 5-10 years and work backward. It is as simple as that. You want a big house and to be in great shape, etc… How are you going to make that happen? It doesn’t happen on it’s own. Decide today to make it happen. Start by writing down 10 goals for the new year.
Write goals for everything from financial goals, goals for relationships, work, etc… Anything from “I want to make such and such money this year”, or ” I want to weigh this much by next year” or “I want to get a particular promotion at work”.
Then, pick the single most important one, or the one that would help you most to get where you want to be in life and circle it. Start there. Now, begin to write down in detail the action plan on how you intend to make it happen. This will be life changing and all I am asking you to do is take a minute to write this stuff down. Then, just do a little bit each day to make this goal easier to reach. Time is going to pass anyway, so why not be productive and live the way you want to?
Next, I’d like you to do the same process for your martial arts goals. Think about where you want to be and what you want to have accomplished in 5 years and work backward. Write down 5 goals for me for the year. Anything as simple as “I want to be able to throw a perfect Osoto Gari” to “I want to win my first gold medal this year” or “I want to compete in my first Smoker this year”. Next, start on your action plan and how you can start to accomplish this. Be like that 3% of the population who are happy, successful, driven and unstoppable!

So, evolve and be who you want to be!  Be disciplined and start writing down your goals today!  Hang them up over your work area (mine are printed and stapled above my computer as a constant reminder and reference) and get to it!  In the mean time, enjoy a fun, safe and happy New Year’s Eve:)

All the best to my martial arts family,

sig

DADDIS MIXED MARTIAL ARTS NEWSLETTER 9/16/2011

DADDIS MIXED MARTIAL ARTS NEWSLETTER 9/16/2011

Hey Team!

So Summer is officially over!

Got a quick-ish newsletter for you. I spent last weekend in NYC making moves on some cool new opportunities for the gym and cornering Dan Matala to victory at the TakeOn Muay Thai show in Queens. Dan fought a very tough and very game opponent and managed to earn the win through a back-and-forth three-round battle.

The following night, two of our standout professional fighters rounded out the Bellator card in Atlantic City. Alexandre Popo Bezerra picked up his 4th straight Bellator win since coming to the states with a second round submission victory.

We hope to see Popo in the “big show” on his next outing! Philly instructor Brylan VanArtsdalen controlled the first half of the fight before slipping into a tight submission hold and took a heartbreaking loss.

But in the sport of MMA, anything can happen, at any time. All three of our weekend’s competitors fought amazingly and we are very proud of their performances!

I want to ask you all to take a minute to help us out again. I think I mentioned this before but Google is having “beef” with alot of other websites and is trying to position itself as the only relevant internet company out there.

Therefore, alot of our reviews on google have gotten dropped (they were taken from sites like Yelp, etc). Long story short–please help us out by taking a minute to share your experience with us on our Google places sites!

Unfortunately I can’t link you to them (the URL is too long apparently) but just head to Google.com, type in “Daddis MMA,” and the nearest academy should pop up. Thanks!

CHARITY FOR FLOOD VICTIMS SET FOR OCTOBER 22ND!

The grandparents of one of our students, Cassie, were affected terribly by the flooding caused by hurricane Irene.  Their house, situated right along the Rancocas Creek, was flooded and completely destroyed.  And they are still awaiting help from FEMA but none has come yet.

In the meantime, the restaurant where our student’s grandfather works has put together a Beef & Beer fundraiser!  We encourage all students, friends, and family to stop by and lend some support.

It will be held on October  22nd from 2-6pm at Dempster’s Bar & Grill; 437 Pine Street, Mount Holly - (609) 261-0500

Tickets are $25 per person (available at the door) and include a full buffet and all domestic draft beer from 2pm-6pm.

There will be 50/50′s, raffles, horseshoe tournaments, beer pong tournaments, dart tournaments, & a DJ!

Thanks!

ROBERTO “CYBORG” ABREU SEMINAR IN PHILADELPHIA DATE CHANGED TO NOVEMBER 12th

We are honored to have one of the BEST living Brazilian Jiu Jitsu masters coming to our academy on November 12th for an amazing seminar!  We had to push the date back from October 22nd because Cyborg is slated to compete that weekend in a huge tournament.  Some of Cyborg’s stats include:

  • 2x World Nogi Champion (2010 – weight and absolute);
  • 8x State Open Class Champion ( Mato Grosso, Brazil);
  • Brazilian National Champion;
  • 3x Panamerican Champion;
  • South American Champion (weight and open Class);
  • European Champion;
  • 7x Grapplers Quest Open Class Champion;
  • 4x Copa America Open Class Champion;
  • 12x World Championships and world cup medallist;
  • Finalist at Abu Dhabi 2009
  • Brazilian Wrestling National Champion (Brazilian National team member).

Cyborg is known as an amazing competitor and the innovator of the “Tornado Guard” which is being widely used in international competition right now!

This seminar will be open to Daddis Fight Camps members and non-members alike.  I will have more info for you (time, price, etc.) ASAP!

NOVEMBER TO REMEMBER–IN-HOUSE BJJ TOURNAMENT AND “MMA AND MUAY THAI SHOWCASE” EVENT

So check it out–

We are setting up to super cool events for you guys in the month of November!  Details and times, location, etc. TBA and subject to change.  But since we are one of the busiest academies this side of the Mississippi we need to just set a date and stick to it!

So first will be an in-house Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament.  Not only is this a great opportunity to hone your skills for competition (for those students interested in making a run at making a name for themselves on the tournament scene), but even moreso a fun, safe, and unintimidating opportunity for those students who want to test their skills and see what they’re capable of doing in a “live” situation.

We strongly encourage ALL of our submission grappling and MMA students to compete!  Not only will you have a blast (trust me, matches are FUN), but you will learn some really important stuff about yourself–what techniques are you good at?  Which ones need improvement?  What small changes can I make to my training regimen to improve even faster?  With competition experience under your belt, you will train SMARTER and have the confidence to use what you know!

The In-House BJJ Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, November 5th, at the Philadelphia Academy.

Next up is our Mixed Martial Arts and Muay Thai Kickboxing Showcase!  This event will feature exhibition sparring matches between Daddis Fight Camps students, and students from brother and sister academies across the East Coast.  Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in full Muay Thai or MMA exhibition matches.  This is a great event for those students looking to get into actual competition, so mark your calendars!

The MMA and Muay Thai Kickboxing Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, November 19th, at the Cherry Hill Academy!

Remember, as Shakespeare said: “A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.” :)

More info on both events TBA as we approach the dates.

UFC Veteran Mike Whitehead visits Daddis Mixed Martial Arts to train!

Daddis MMA was excited to welcome heavyweight UFC veteran Mike Whitehead to the Philadelphia academy last week for some great training! Mike is a longtime professional in this sport and a product of the famed Miletich Fighting Systems academy in Bettendorf, Iowa.

The vid above shows Mike and one of our fighters, Rhys, sparring lightly in the ring. For two big guys they move VERY well.. excellent technique!

You can find more training videos, techniques, and fun stuff on our online video channel at YouTube.com/Daddis
